It was a regular Friday evening.
As
usual, I was tired like everyone after a hectic week. As soon as I reached
home, I threw my bag off and ran to bed not even daring to freshen up. I was
awakened by the voice of my husband. It was hard for me to open my eyes but I
heard him shouting, "Ghee, wake up! You have got 5 minutes to pack your
bags." I was shocked and I asked him many questions. Where are we up to??
You didn't say me earlier?? Can't you see I am sleeping and I am so damn
tired...??? But he was like, "Okay fine,
I am leaving ..! " Yeah.. that was quite shocking for me since he was bit
serious . I jumped out of my bed and packed within 10 minutes. During our
drive, Nithu ( usually I call him) said me that he has booked a resort at
Tharuvana in Wayanad district and we are
planning to have a stay there tonight . I was overwhelmed with joy. Wayanad was
just two hours of drive from Calicut. We reached the Century village resort at Tharuvana by 9:00 p.m.
The resort is set in 3 acres of lush greenery. There
were around 9 cottages and the theme of the resort was water and nature .We had
a short walk through the land at night. The ethnic lamps at each nook and
corner have added to its beauty at night. After the walk, we hit the pillow at
11:00 p.m. We were awakened by the noise of
kids in the nearby cottages.
As
we had breakfast, we met a family from Kochi. During our conversation, we found
that we had similar taste in travelling – we were unplanned travellers. We
shared our experiences about the places which we visited. They had a 5 year old
son named, Kichu. The boy was so vibrant and talkative. After our chats, we
decided to visit Bandhipur Tiger Reserve together. So we vacated the resort at
11:00 a.m. and we were all set for the journey.
Stepping into the nature . . . .
The adventure and thrill in a self
driven vehicle to a forest is unrivalled. After one and half hours of drive, we
stepped into the forest. The climate was warm and pleasant. The cool breeze
refreshed our minds. All of us inhaled the fresh air in a manner that we were out
of oxygen for the past few hours. During our journey, we spotted deer and
elephants on the road side. The kiddo with us was shouting out of excitement
and even all of us were so damn excited. During our drive we were shocked to see acres
of land burned down in forest fire. Around 3:20 pm, we reached the tiger
reserve. Buses and gypsies were available for jungle safari. After taking
tickets, we got into the bus.
The bus Safari stretched for 45 minutes. Van and
Gypsy were also made available during tourism season. The Safari started at
3:30 p.m. When the safari started, the guide instructed us to maintain silence
throughout the journey. All of us were eagerly waiting to spot animals. During
our way, we found deers and elephants near the water sources.
It was a thrilling experience to watch wild animals residing and enjoying their natural habitat. The forest area was largely covered with dry deciduous trees. Different variety of birds, peacocks, mongoose were spotted. During safari, we came across monkey fight. They were Gray Langurs or Hanuman langurs... which are a group of
monkeys native to the Indian subcontinent .It was said that monkeys are
sociable animals and they live in troops .There occurs a fight among them when one wander into the territory of another troop. None of
us were aware of the sands of time. Suddenly,
the guide has asked us to remain silent and he pointed out a leopard near the
heavy bushes moving cunningly towards it's prey. In spite of the fact that we
were inside bus, all of us shivered because the leopard was too close by. We
continued our journey once the leopard disappeared into the dense forest. The
Safari got over by 4:30 p.m.
Since the trip was not planned earlier, rooms were
not available for accommodation. So we ride back after having a handful of
experiences and memories. In the return drive through the forest, the nature
kissed us with the rain. It was an
alluring experience. The downpour of water was so chilling. The air smelled
good and the earthy scent was produced when raindrops fell on dry soil and trees.
The smell of eucalyptus was clean, fresh and relaxing and we wished to take the
aroma to our lives.
Thus my ordinary day was turned
into an extraordinary day.
